To help you in the process of commissioning a portrait from “A Second of You,”
I have elaborated on several areas of importance below.

 SELECTION

Selecting a photograph upon which we both can agree is the crucial starting point for a successful portrait. Depending upon proximity, it would be mutually beneficial if I could photograph the person to be portrayed, using specialized equipment to obtain a wide variety of candid shots.

If this approach is not feasible, the next best scenario would be for you to send me various shots of the subject. Multiple shots would provide me a better “feel” for the personality. If you have that “ favorite or special” shot that too will be welcomed.  After this aspect is completed, sharing our thoughts and perceptions of what we are envisioning for the portrait would be the next needed step for your satisfaction.

SIZING

Each artist has personal preferences for certain papers or canvases. Experience has shown me that certain canvases produce the desired results.  I prefer to work with the following sizes: 11x14, 14x18, 16x20, and 18x24.  They are perfect vehicles for the types of portraits which you see in my gallery. They help maintain reality of face and proportion. The choice is yours; and the size you choose will not affect pricing. I specialize in close-ups, but will also do full portraits.

MATTING AND FRAMING

Because of the sensitive nature of pastels, I will be happy to work with you on suggestions for appropriate mats and frames. Effective matting and framing using subtlety, delicacy, and finesse will subsequently heighten the value and appearance of the portrait with an excellent finishing touch. These services and materials would require an extra charge. We can discuss that on an individual basis.

PRICING

Prices for portraitures will vary as there are many factors to be considered.

Color Choice:
Charcoal is less expensive than pastels. Most of the portraits that you see in my gallery are a combination of the two.
Use of pastels increases the price somewhat, but can greatly enhance the portrait.

Details and Background:
The number of details and complexity of the background will be a determination in the pricing. The greater the complexity of these factors the more time and materials are involved, resulting in increased prices.

Number of Figures:
The number of people involved in the painting affects the cost. The more figures, the greater the expense.

Cost:
Starting price is $600.00 (black and white). Photo shoots are included in the price, but travel expenses will need to be reimbursed. Money orders, cashier checks, and personal checks are the desired methods of payment. Clearance time of one week to ten days will be needed. All drafts should be made out to:
Deborah L. Olson.

Deposit:
An advance deposit of 50% will be required.
